The Premedical Office at Florida A&M University provides systematic and comprehensive application advice/support to FAMU students (regardless of major) who are interested in careers in the health fields. The term "premed” refers to a minimum schedule of required/recommended courses for students applying to professional degree programs in medicine, osteopathic medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, and related health fields. Students who are interested in pursuing pharmacy at FAMU are advised by the College of Pharmacy, not the Premedical Office.
FAMU students who wish to receive structured advising from the Premedical Office should have an active university email address on file in the Premedical Office. Currently enrolled students should register with the Premed Office by scheduling an appointment with Mr. Fran Scott at fran.scott@famu.edu.
The Premedical Office, located in the College of Science and Technology - University Commons building room 104, complements the support provided by academic advisors within major academic departments. It is staffed with an Assistant Director/premedical advisor and premed student volunteers. The office is generally open from 8am-5pm during the academic year.
Although most college students are not prepared to submit their health professions school applications until the summer between junior and senior years, the process of “building” a COMPETITIVE application should start day one of freshman year and continue until the student gains admission into professional school or changes career or educational paths.
Due to the significant number of students interested in medical, dental, etc. school at FAMU, activities conducted by FAMU's Premedical Office are comprehensive and highly structured, conducted in a group setting. Additionally, worksheets or handouts are distributed with pertinent information. The following are some of the types of support currently provided by FAMU’s Premedical Office:

Under the terms of a newly inked memorandum of understanding (MOU), qualified FAMU graduates gain automatic acceptance to AUA as medical school students. Students with a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) who otherwise meet AUA’s admissions requirements would qualify.
In addition, five participating FAMU graduates will be awarded a $5,000 College Partner Grant.
Students may also be eligible to receive AUA’s Physician Diversification Initiative Scholarship (a $50,000 award) or other grants and scholarships.
LECOM has developed special Early Acceptance Programs with select community colleges, undergraduate colleges and universities that grant qualified students a provisional early acceptance to LECOM’s School of Dental Medicine. In some cases, these programs will permit the student to start the professional program prior to receiving a bachelor degree from the undergraduate institution.
Application to the EAP is separate from the application to the undergraduate school. A student may apply for EAP consideration as a high school senior. While current undergraduate students may apply, they should contact the pre-health advisor at their school to see if they qualify. Students apply to enroll in the EAP by following the link “Affiliated Undergraduate College Inquiry” found on the myLECOM Portal. Some undergraduate schools may require a separate application for their phase of the EAP program; please check with the institution.
Additional requirements, including a final application to LECOM, must be met for final acceptance to LECOM, but another interview is not required. The specific criteria for acceptance into the programs will vary from school to school, but the general requirements are listed below:
Applicants will be accepted into the DO Program if they satisfy the eligibility requirements set forth herein and are interviewed and accepted by PCOM’s Faculty Committee on Admissions. The Faculty Committee on Admissions at PCOM will consider applicants who meet the following criteria:
